This job works in all areas of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and Developmental Laboratories. Collects or requests samples, performs histocompatibility testing and HLA cross matches, and reports results. Participates in the Performance Improvement Program and maintains confidentiality of patient related information.
Education
Required – Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a Biological Science, Physical Science, or related field
Work Experience
Required – Experience maintaining a professional atmosphere and providing quality service to patients;
Experience working independently, prioritizing and organizing workflow to maintain optimal productivity;
Experience with managing stress and experience with computers, printers and laboratory equipment
Preferred – 1 year experience in a general clinical laboratory;
Experience in histocompatibility testing
Certifications
Required – Temporary or trainee license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the state of practice, Generalist or appropriate Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialist or obtained 90 days after hire.
Preferred – Current license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Generalist or appropriate Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialist in the state of practice.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, keyboard, and various software programs specific to role.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

Analytical skills in order to perform calculations, operate laboratory equipment, computers, and printers.

Positive interpersonal skills to deal courteously and effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, co-workers and other personnel

Job Duties
- Performs, develops and interprets routine and/or specialized laboratory testing independently without error, within established time frames.
- Performs, analyzes and records quality control and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting making judgments concerning results, and takes appropriate action necessary to maintain accuracy and precision. Escalates appropriately when results are out of control and ensures adequate documentation of corrective action. Adheres to on call protocols and testing turnaround times.
- Adheres to regulatory compliance guidelines and maintains an awareness of accreditation standards for laboratories by reviewing the most current checklist/standards. Follows safety guidelines, OIG compliance requirements and follows protocol for proficiency testing of samples.
- Successfully completes individual competency and completes all annual requirements. Meets organizational and departmental goals and objectives by modeling professional demeanor and teamwork.
- Participates in performance improvement opportunities by assisting in the collection and analysis of data and supports business development and cost reduction initiatives by managing supply and reagent inventory.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
- Other related duties as required.
