This job oversees the daily operations and performance of the Medication Access (MAS) team, ensuring efficient medication access services across the organization. This role provides direct supervision to MAS staff and acts as a liaison between pharmacy teams, referring providers, nursing staff, and patients. The supervisor is responsible for driving team engagement, resolving escalated patient issues, and monitoring the quality and effectiveness of workflows related to medication prior authorization, insurance verification, and patient support. This position contributes to continuous process improvement, leads training and onboarding efforts, and ensures compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education
Required – High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare
Work Experience
Required – 7 years of experience as a pharmacy technician, medical intake, or healthcare employee working with medications
OR 2 years of such experience with a bachelor’s degree.
Certifications
Required - Medication Therapy Management Certification obtained through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) must be obtained within 6 months
OR
Medication History Certificate from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) must be obtained within 6 months.
OR
Pharmacy Revenue Cycle Management Certificate from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) must be obtained within 6 months
AND
Infusion Revenue Cycle Basics Training Program Certificate from the National Home Infusion Alliance (NHIA) must be obtained within 6 months.
Preferred - Pharmacy Technician License in state of practice.

- Knowledge of current, applicable federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements and ability to ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards.
Job Duties
- Supervises and supports the daily operations of the Medication Access Specialist team, ensuring coverage, workflow efficiency, and adherence to performance standards.
- Provides training, coaching, and performance feedback to team members to support their professional development and promote accountability.
- Oversees escalated patient cases and resolves complex issues related to medication authorizations, eligibility, or pharmacy coordination.
- Collaborates with pharmacy, providers, and care teams to streamline processes and ensure timely access to medications for patients.
- Conducts quality assurance audits and monitors documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Leads initiatives for continuous process improvement including standardization of workflows, documentation practices, and patient communication.
- Coordinates and facilitates team meetings, huddles, and ongoing education sessions to foster knowledge sharing and operational consistency.
- Serves as resource to internal and external stakeholders for guidance on medication access workflows and best practice.
- Assists leadership in developing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and metrics to monitor team performance.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid. The incumbent has no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
