Sr. Storage and Data Engineer

The Storage and Data Engineer serves as the enterprise lead for large scale storage and data migrations to AWS, Azure, and Rackspace. This role is responsible for planning, executing, and validating end to end migration activities using enterprise grade tools and native cloud services while ensuring minimal downtime and full data integrity. Following migration, the engineer will own long term storage operations across Rackspace private cloud, AWS, Azure, and remaining on premises systems.

The position is both migration focused and operationally focused to ensure smooth transition into steady state run operations with strong resilience, compliance, and lifecycle management

The engineer will support Dell, NetApp, and cloud native platforms while enabling AI and analytics workloads across multi cloud data lakes. This includes engagement with AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake, Snowflake storage patterns, and AI data enablement services. The role also assumes primary ownership of Dell PPDM and Data Domain backup operations across hybrid cloud workloads.

Lead Storage and Data Migrations to AWS Azure and Rackspace

  • Lead planning and execution of enterprise scale storage migrations with minimal downtime
  • Use tools including AWS DataSync NetApp SnapMirror Azure Data Box Dell EMC XCP and vendor native replication technologies
  • Execute cutover planning validation and rollback procedures for clinical and enterprise workloads
  • Ensure migration activities align to resiliency compliance and audit requirements
  • Partner with Cloud Architecture and Application teams to coordinate workload transitions and data validation

Long Term Rackspace Storage Ownership

  • Own capacity performance lifecycle and daily operations of all storage hosted in Rackspace private cloud
  • Manage storage presented to Epic EMR platforms and related workloads
  • Maintain replication protection and multi site resilience within the Rackspace managed environment
  • Optimize storage configurations for cost performance and long term maintainability

Backup and Protection Ownership Across Hybrid Cloud

  • Serve as the operational owner for Dell PPDM and Data Domain platforms
  • Manage backup strategy scheduling and restore testing across on premises Rackspace AWS and Azure workloads
  • Ensure all clinical and enterprise systems remain protected during and after migration activities
  • Validate backup integrity perform periodic restores and maintain compliance with retention policies

Multi Cloud Storage Engineering and Integration

  • Engineer cloud native storage solutions including AWS S3 Azure Blob Azure Data Lake FSx for NetApp ONTAP and Azure Files
  • Support EMR storage patterns in AWS including S3 and EBS
  • Support imaging workloads and large media sets in Azure including Blob tiers and ADLS Gen2
  • Design and operate cross cloud ingestion and replication patterns
  • Align architecture between Dell storage NetApp ONTAP and cloud storage services

Operational Excellence in Steady State Run Operations

  • Monitor performance availability capacity and lifecycle of all storage platforms across Rackspace AWS Azure and on premises
  • Conduct regular DR validation including failover testing replication health and recovery runbook updates
  • Manage patching firmware and configuration governance for all storage systems
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA HITRUST and internal security controls
  • Implement tagging auditing logging and cost governance across multi cloud storage footprints

Manage Current and Future Storage Platforms

  • Support existing Dell PowerScale PowerStore PowerMax and Pure Storage platforms
  • Lead planning for future NetApp ONTAP adoption and cloud integration
  • Ensure smooth transitions from legacy to modern platforms with no clinical disruption
  • Maintain consistent operational standards across diverse storage technologies

AI and Data Platform Enablement

  • Prepare storage layers for AI analytics and RAG workloads
  • Support AI platforms including Amazon Bedrock SageMaker Azure OpenAI Service and Azure AI Studio
  • Collaborate with AI and Data teams to optimize storage for embeddings parquet data and large unstructured datasets

Required Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience leading enterprise storage migrations using DataSync SnapMirror Azure Data Box XCP and similar tools
  • Strong experience operating storage in Rackspace private cloud or similar environments
  • Expertise with NetApp ONTAP Dell PowerScale PowerStore PowerMax Pure Storage and replication technologies
  • Proficiency with AWS S3 Azure Blob Azure Data Lake FSx and cloud storage services
  • Experience supporting Snowflake storage usage and cloud based ingest patterns
  • Strong Dell PPDM and Data Domain administration experience
  • Experience designing and validating DR recovery patterns for large storage environments
  • Competency in Python SQL infrastructure as code and automation tooling
  • Knowledge of IAM encryption key management secure connectivity and audit controls

Desired Skills

  • Experience supporting storage for EMR workloads in AWS
  • Experience supporting imaging workloads and large media sets in Azure
  • Knowledge of AI dataset preparation vector storage and analytics pipelines
  • Healthcare data experience

Education

Bachelor degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent experience
