A "Hidden Gem" for New Grads:

Lisa's Perspective on Ochsner Therapy & Wellness - Diamondhead

Featuring: Lisa G, Physical Therapist

Location: Ochsner Therapy & Wellness - Diamondhead

Meet Lisa

Lisa G. is a physical therapist at Ochsner Therapy & Wellness in Diamondhead, Mississippi. Lisa has been a physical therapist for 43 years, and she’s been serving patients at the same clinic since 2002. In 2018, that clinic became part of our Ochsner Health family, and Lisa has remained a steadfast member of the team, continuing to support the community she’s cared for over so many years.

Her experience and long-standing connection to the community shape the care she provides to patients every day.

A Welcoming, Team-Driven Environment

Lisa describes the clinic as a very welcoming and social place to work. With clinicians who bring different skills and experiences, she said the opportunity to learn from one another is one of the things she values most.

“We have a lot of different clinicians with different skills,” Lisa said. “Being able to learn from coworkers—new techniques and different ways of doing things—has really helped us get patients better.”

That teamwork shows up in how the clinic operates every day. “We are all very compatible,” she said. “We can be serious when we need to be, but it can be fun when we have the opportunity.”

Lisa emphasized that the clinic thrives on teamwork, not competition. Everyone is willing to treat any patient who walks through the door, and when needed, team members step in to support one another.

“If someone has more skill in a certain area, we can switch patients, and that all goes over perfectly fine,” she said. “There are no hard feelings—we just want what’s best for the patient.”

Making a Difference for Patients

Lisa often thinks back on the many patients she’s helped over the years, and one in particular left a lasting impression.

This patient came in with severe back and leg pain and could only walk short distances. During his evaluation, Lisa found that his hips weren’t working well and helped guide him to the right care.

After hip replacements, back surgery and continued therapy, Lisa and the team worked closely with him to rebuild his strength.

“We worked really hard to get him upright and walking without pain,” she said. “He was able to get back to playing golf and doing things with his friends again.”

For Lisa, moments like this show the true impact of physical therapy.

“The part of my job that I find most fulfilling is simply working with people,” she said. “If I could treat people and talk with people all day long… that would be the perfect job.”

A Place to Learn and Grow

Lisa believes Ochsner Therapy & Wellness – Diamondhead is an ideal place for therapists who are open, curious and eager to grow in their careers. She says the team welcomes people who aren’t afraid to ask questions or lean on one another.

“Someone who is outgoing, not afraid to ask questions and not afraid to admit when they don’t know something will do well here,” she said.

That support is a defining part of the culture. Team members make time to help each other improve, and no one is expected to figure things out alone. “If you try to figure it out on your own, you’re really missing one of the advantages of working here,” she added.

Lisa also calls the clinic a “hidden gem” in the Diamondhead community. Even as part of a well-known hospital system, she says many people don’t realize the clinic is there, but she hopes that changes as the team grows.

“We’re always looking for new team members,” she said. “And I really feel like a new grad would be so happy to work here.”

When it comes to those new graduates, Lisa encourages them to trust their training and keep their focus on the patient in front of them.

“Make sure you listen to your patient—your patient will tell you what’s wrong,” she said. “If you know the basics, you can see anybody… be calm, ask somebody, use what you learned and you’ll grow from there.”
