Your Benefits at Work:

How Ochsner Health Helped Wes H. Say Yes to Life

Featuring: Wes H., PhD, AVP - Regional Employee Experience

When Wes H. joined Ochsner Health, he brought more than his skills and experience. He brought a health challenge he had been fighting for most of his life. By the time he found a new path forward, his weight had climbed to nearly 400 pounds. Hiking, amusement parks and everyday adventures that he was passionate about felt out of reach.

Then he put his Ochsner benefits to work.

Real Benefits. Real Results.

One of the most common myths about radiation therapy is that therapists are constantly exposed to radiation and somehow become radioactive themselvesAs an Ochsner employee, Wes enrolled in Ochsner Digital Medicine— a clinically proven program available to eligible team members that provides continuous, personalized support for weight management, high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes. More than 60,000 patients rely on the program nationwide.

Since enrolling in February 2025, Wes has lost nearly 130 pounds— 190 pounds overall since starting his weight-loss journey. But the number on the scale is only part of the story.

"One of the most meaningful outcomes of this journey is that is has allowed me to fully engage in life in ways I never could before," Wes said.

Benefits That Build on Each Other

Many people assume radiation therapy requires patients to spend hours at the hospital each dayWes also took advantage of Ochsner's Active and Fit benefit, which gives eligibly employees access to gym memberships. He started with just 20 to 30 minutes of exercise a day. That small commitment grew into a daily routine now averaging 2.5 hours.

"The biggest difference was the confidence the program gave me," Wes said. "As I began seeing success, I felt empowered to invest even more in my health."

His transformation has been so remarkable that he has been approached about competing in transformational bodybuilding competitions— something he never imagine possible.

A Story Worth Sharing

Wes regularly shares his journey on social media, hoping to reach others who are facing similar struggles.

"If my story helps even one person believe that change is possible, then sharing it is worth it," he said.

At Ochsner, we believe caring for our team members is just as important as caring for our patients. Wes's story is proof of what becomes possible when the right support is in place.
