The Emergency Management Supervisor – Regional Operations (South Louisiana) oversees emergency management activities across multiple hospital campuses and care sites within the River Region, Bayou Region, Baton Rouge, and Acadiana markets. This role supervises program development, personnel, training, and quality assurance, and leads the implementation of an all-hazards emergency management program focused on mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. The Supervisor ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including Joint Commission requirements, and serves as a key member of the Incident Command Team during emergencies and planned events.

Education

Required – High School diploma or equivalent
Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) 300 and 400 or must be obtained within 6–12 months of hire
Completion of Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) or must be obtained within 6–12 months of hire

Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, healthcare management, or related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on experience

Work Experience

Minimum of 3 years of experience in Emergency Management or a closely related field

Preferred – Experience in a healthcare setting, experience supporting emergency response, incident command, or operational activations, prior experience coordinating drills, exercises, or emergency preparedness programs, informal or formal leadership experience (e.g., leading projects, teams, or initiatives)

Certifications

Required – Valid driver’s license in the state of practice

Preferred – Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) or Certified Emergency Manager (CEM)

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong knowledge of emergency management principles, disaster planning, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including Joint Commission standards.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across a geographically dispersed environment.

  • Supervisory skills and ability to foster an environment of teamwork, professionalism, high performance, and mutual respect of others.

  • Demonstrated ability to remain effective under pressure and lead through rapidly evolving situations.

  • Strong decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, ESF8, PowerPoint and web-based applications.

  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, support, and hold team members accountable.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly to frontline staff and executive leadership.

  • Experience coordinating projects, programs, or initiatives with multiple stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and management skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment during emergencies.

Job Duties

  • Supervises and leads Emergency Management personnel in operational performance matters as assigned.

  • Supervises, trains, and develops department staff.

  • Develops and distributes templates, reports, presentations, and workflows related to emergency management mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

  • Develops, schedules, and conducts emergency preparedness and response training for system-level personnel.

  • Plans and evaluates emergency drills and exercises across the system or within a specific region to test the Emergency Operations Plan and remain in a state of readiness.

  • Supports the system-wide exercises.

  • Acts as a liaison with the department of health’s regional coordinator and local and state emergency management counterparts.

  • Ensures all documentation is maintained for emergency management activities to meet Joint Commission standards.

  • Participates in planning and implementation of system-wide emergency management initiatives and leads other regions within the company as needed.

  • Leads system-wide emergency management projects as assigned.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.   (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid.

The incumbent has no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
