This job provides leadership and support to the organizational facilities in the area of infection control surveillance, detection, improvement and prevention, operates an infection control prevention program that includes education, tracking and reporting, process consultation and improvement and building a system wide infection prevention culture. Designs, implements and directs organization's infection control responsibilities include surveillance, analysis, reporting and recording activities, setting standards in accordance with national guidelines and evaluating compliance for practices associated with prevention and control of health care associated infections.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education
Required - Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Epidemiology, Statistics, or Public Health
Preferred - Master’s degree in Healthcare, Epidemiological field or in a relevant area
Work Experience
Required - 6 years direct work experience in epidemiology or infection control.
Experience managing a hospital-based, Infection Control function with inpatient and ambulatory settings.
Certifications
Required - Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 2 years of employment.
Preferred - Current membership in The Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) and Epidemiology and Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have advanced knowledge of software applications to develop databases, conduct analyses and prepare trended reports.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals
- Knowledge of disease process, patient care practices, aseptic techniques and other principles of infection transmission and prevention.
- Experience managing a hospital-based, Infection Control function with inpatient and ambulatory settings.
- Strong proficiency in analysis, synthesis and reporting of clinical research.
- Skills to manage active clinical process elements bringing the best, current science regarding infection prevention to the caregivers and clinicians in all patient care settings including the clinics.
- Success in reducing the risk of infection in academic medical centers.
- Skills to analyze and translate internal/external reports .
Job Duties
- Manages and directs the Infection Control Department and staff.
- Consults within and educates the organization regarding epidemiological issues.
- Analyzes data, trended and surveillance, to identify and recommend process and/or operational organizational improvements.
- Develops/revises the Infection Control Plan consistent with the company's strategies, bases on data analysis, ICSRA, and financial implications.
- Other related duties as required.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
Mechanical lifting devices (carts, dollies, etc.) or team lifts should be utilized.
Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity.
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. more than eight hours a day).
Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue.
The incumbent works with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
