The Director s is responsible for the strategic planning, direction and direct accountability for hospital revenue cycle operations including billing, coding, compliance, service line accounts receivable, technology integration, quality assurance and operations support for the hospital central business office (CBO). The Director monitors, reports and communicates matters impacting Ochsner Hospital facilities Accounts Receivable and non-Ochsner clients as they may be added to the CBO. The Director maintains excellent and productive relationships with colleagues, facility leadership, physicians, physician groups, and third party payers.The Director of Hospital Revenue Cycle evaluates billing, denial and follow-up trends and associated metrics to implement mitigation plans and educational requirements, including follow-up edit consultation, education, and KPIs for Ochsner Health System’s Revenue Cycle; develops and is accountable for budget for department or multiple functional areas; oversees and directs business office activities including billing related staff for Ochsner Health System CBO facilities; develops and monitors specific objectives and performance standards for each area of responsibility in order to evaluate and improve financial outcomes and quality improvements. The Director of Hospital Revenue Cycle develops, evaluates and implements individual training plans and staff development programs for each functional area; provides ongoing training for new and existing staff; monitors regulatory issues, federal and state, that impact the department for compliance; and coordinates staff assignments according to volume of work and areas of responsibility to ensure that all assigned tasks are completed timely.
Education
- Required - Associates degree
- Preferred - Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration
Work Experience
- Required - 5 years in Healthcare revenue cycle management experience, including 2 years of experience in a multi-facility system with substantial clinic exposure (i.e., large faculty practice plan or employed physician model).
Certifications
- Preferred - Professional Certification through Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) or Medical Group Management Association (MGMA)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Thorough knowledge of medical billing and collections including, Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, Workers Comp and other third party payers.
- Professional attitude and ability to relate to executive management, professionals and business and community leaders.
- Excellent leadership and self-direction.
- Good judgment in handling difficult situations.
- Good organizational, time management, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Job Duties
- Manages all billing, follow-up and denials for managed care, commercial, workers comp and specialty AR.
- Manages the external vendor relationships and partnerships and subsequent results of their work.
- Adheres to a personal plan of professional development and growth through professional affiliations, activities and continuing education.
- Ties revenue cycle operations to the financial statements.
- Monitors progress on strategic plans and recommends updates to Senior Management.
- Ensures that the physical environment and job structures are designed to promote employee safety.
