Ochsner Health System and Louisiana State University Health Science Center- Shreveport is seeking a full-time Chief of the Section of Cardiology. This position will serve a critical role in the education of medical and allied health students, interns and residents in the Department of Medicine, fellows in the Section of Cardiology, and the faculty in the Section of Cardiology. The incumbent will serve as leader of the group of Cardiologists, advising the Chairperson regarding the hiring of faculty and staff and all other matters related to this group of physicians and staff employed within this group.
The Chief of the Section of Cardiology will serve a critical role in the care of patients with cardiac illnesses, oversee the care of patients on the Cardiology service and in the Coronary Care Unit, provide consultative care to other physicians in the University regarding patients with Cardiac illnesses and undertake procedures needed for the care of patients with cardiac illnesses.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Promoting clinical production and creating opportunities in all department sections
- Leading by example in clinical excellence and clinical productivity
- Maintaining the clinical schedule and ensuring coverage for all clinical areas
- Review and submission of annual financial reports and budget requests
- Optimization of clinic operations via appropriate staffing, cooperation with APPs/scheduling/nurses/MAs/staff, and resource utilization in conjunction with leadership
- Developing and monitoring goals and business plans for all department sections
- Creation, implementation and review of appropriate quality metrics for faculty
- Assisting in the development of community outreach resources and programs
- Participation in leadership discussions regarding operations, clinical needs/barriers, services, etc.
- Lead and supervise regularly scheduled educational meetings
- Maintain office hour availability M-F outside of clinical responsibilities
Qualifications
Candidates must have the following qualifications to be considered:
- Have an M.D.
- Be eligible for medical licensure and clinical practice in the state of Louisiana
- Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in the field of Cardiology
- Provide evidence of experience in the field of Cardiology
- Show competency in the interpretation of EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, cardiac catheterization, and other relevant tests, as well as the management of patients with cardiac illnesses, both acute and chronic
- Excellent communication skills to interface with learners, faculty, healthcare teams, administrators, community organizations and donors

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will also have the following:
- Proven record of administrative and academic leadership
- Demonstrated experience and accomplishments in Interventional Cardiology
Candidates must be clinically active, highly motivated and possess the leadership skills necessary to ensure a commitment of excellence in all areas of the program.
